MapQuest for Letter Mm

We printed out a map of our neighborhood on MapQuest.com and have been using it all week to plan our route:
  • to the park

  • to our church

  • to the library

KID 1 loves being the map reader, marking our route before we step out the door, map in hand. Along the way, we make a note of everything we see that starts with "Mm." I will turn our word search into word cards for him to glue corresponding pictures from magazines on the back.

Some "Mm" words we found:

  • mailbox
  • magnolia seeds
  • moss
  • moth
  • mower
  • month (printed on a "Yard of the Month" sign)
  • movers (on the side of the moving truck that delivered our piano!)

  1. I LOVE this idea! This is one that I am definitely filing away for our letter "M" week. Too fun!

  2. This week has been really fun! I love the way all of our activities this week have been interdisciplinary. Map reading involved math skills and spacial reasoning, while also reinforcing literacy as we searched for letter Mm things. Magnet painting was so much fun, and we learned cause and effect while creating art. Our Musical Murals combined our love of art and music, and tomorrow we will learn about Mexico and then experience the culinary products of that country...I love homeschooling!

  3. I love several of the fall books you picked. Leaf Man and The Biggest Pumpkin Ever are fall favs. We also like The Pumpkin Patch Parable.

I like your letter m ideas. For letter M we did marble painting and made musical instruments. Letter m was fun for us, too!
